A MOTION accepting a report by the facilities management division in the department of executive services on the feasibility of implementing recycling and solar powered trash compaction at all buildings owned and leased by King County
body
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KING COUNTY:
WHEREAS, King County owns and leases buildings located throughout the county, and
WHEREAS, the facilities management division seeks to maximize the efficiency benefits of its maintenance services including recycling and waste collection, and
WHEREAS, current waste collection from outside receptacles represents one aspect of maintenance staff activities with the amount of work performed incidental, and
WHEREAS, the number of outside waste receptacles at buildings owned and leased by King County is extremely small, and dispersed across the county, and
WHEREAS, the potential for using solar powered compaction system at King County buildings is not likely to reduce labor, fuel and equipment costs to a measureable degree, and
WHEREAS, a proviso in the 2010 Budget Ordinance, Ordinance 16717, requires acceptance by motion of a report addressing the feasibility of implementing recycling and solar powered trash compaction at buildings owned and leased by King County, and
WHEREAS, the transit division was also issued a similar proviso and both divisions were directed to collaborate and provide a joint report, and
WHEREAS, the facilities management division has collaborated with the transit division and together they have determined that they have uniquely different operations and waste collection methods;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:
The report describing the status addressing the feasibility of implementing
recycling and solar powered trash compaction in buildings owned and leased by King County is hereby accepted.
