Title
A MOTION authorizing the executive to accept donations from various organizations that have been or will be made and recognizing past and in-kind donations in support of the Children's Health Initiative in accordance with the policies established in Motion 12507.
Body
WHEREAS, King County's mission for the health of the public is to identify and promote the conditions under which all people can live within healthy communities and can achieve optimum health, as adopted in Motion 12475, and
WHEREAS, it is the intent of the county to improve the health of children, and
WHEREAS, significant disparities in children's health by race, ethnicity, region, and income persist in King County and in some cases are growing, and
WHEREAS, research shows that effective policy for ensuring healthy children, resulting in healthy, productive adults, rests on removing barriers that prevent children from achieving consistent access to comprehensive health care, and
WHEREAS, the King County Children's Health Initiative ("CHI") was adopted unanimously by the King County council in Motion 12507 on May 7, 2007, and includes vision and mission statements for the CHI, goals, and three program components including advocacy for insurance coverage for children, outreach to children and health innovation pilot projects, and
WHEREAS, these organizations making contributions support the CHI, which aims to improve the health of low-income children in King County, and
WHEREAS, these organizations support the vision of the CHI, which combines targeted outreach and linkage strategies connecting families to comprehensive preventive services including oral and mental health and a medical home, and
WHEREAS, the CHI vision rests on a public/private collaboration and a blend of public/private funds to turn the vision into reality, and
WHEREAS, these organizations have specified that funds be earmarked for implementation of innovative pilot app...
