A MOTION acknowledging receipt of a report providing analysis of the causes and consequences of the January 13, 2021, discharges of untreated wastewater into Puget Sound and Lake Washington from the West Point Treatment Plant and several pump stations as required by Motion 15832.

WHEREAS, Motion 15832 directs the executive to transmit, by August 1, 2021, a report reviewing causes and consequences of the unpermitted discharge of untreated wastewater from four wastewater treatment facilities on the morning of January 13, 2021, analyzing past discharges from these facilities and recommending strategies to limit or eliminate recurrence of unpermitted discharges and overflows, including cost estimates associated with such strategies, and
WHEREAS, the wastewater treatment division of the department of natural resources and parks collaborated with the science section of the water and land resources division to determine impacts of overflows on ecology and shellfish harvesting and any impacts to adjacent landowners and facilities, and
WHEREAS, the executive has transmitted to the council the requested report and motion;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:
The receipt of the report providing analysis of the January 13, 2021, unpermitted discharges from wastewater treatment facilities, Attachment A to this motion, as required by Motion 15832, is hereby acknowledged.
