A MOTION approving the 2010 King County Energy Plan.

WHEREAS, for many years, King County has been a leader in improving energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and
WHEREAS, the county spurred development of an important new technology and realized fuel savings of approximately twenty percent in 2004 with one of the first major fleet purchases of over two hundred diesel/electric hybrid buses, and
WHEREAS, King County has continued to provide innovation and leadership in the acquisition and operation of its bus fleet, and in the development of numerous other energy efficiency projects and programs, and
WHEREAS, since 2007, the county has initiated forty-six major energy projects resulting in project energy savings of more than $2 million per year and an additional $3.9 million in utility incentive payments, and
WHEREAS, the county's energy projects include a major gas-to-energy project at the Cedar Hills regional landfill that converts methane gas to energy and further reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and
WHEREAS, the county has also developed innovative energy cogeneration projects at its wastewater treatment plants, and
WHEREAS, the county's longstanding leadership on energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions reductions help provide value to our citizens through energy savings and by protecting the quality of life in our region, and
WHEREAS, the 2010 King County Energy Plan builds on King County Comprehensive Plan policies and past Executive Orders and legislation related to energy efficiency, renewable energy, green vehicles, and green building, and
WHEREAS, the 2010 King County Energy Plan reflects the collaborative effort of multiple King County divisions and a joint commitment to continuous improvements in energy efficiency and conservation, and
