Title
A MOTION requesting the executive to submit a plan to the council by August 1, 2010, that would fully fund criminal justice agencies in the first part of 2011 to avoid the need for these agencies to issue layoff notices to their employees, while the voters decide whether to approve a funding measure on the November ballot.
Body
WHEREAS, King County is facing a $60 million deficit in 2011, and
WHEREAS, the King County council is deciding whether to put a tax measure on the November ballot to fund criminal justice services, and
WHEREAS, King County is required to issue layoff notices to its employees ninety days in advance,
WHEREAS, a November ballot may not inform policy makers about the public's choices in time to avoid layoff notices, and
WHEREAS, the King County council desires to maintain stability in the King County criminal justice agencies during this period of uncertainty;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:
A. The King County cxecutive is directed to submit a plan to the King County council by August 1, 2010, that would fully fund criminal justice agencies in the first part of 2011 for the specific purpose of avoiding the need for these agencies to issue layoff notices to their employees while voters decide whether to approve a funding measure on the November ballot.
