AN ORDINANCE relating to changing handling fees for returned checks; and amending Ordinance 8328, Section 1, as amended, and K.C.C. 4.92.010.

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KING COUNTY:
SECTION 1. Section 2 of this ordinance changes handling fees by county agencies for checks dishonored by nonacceptance or nonpayment. These fees are assessed as authorized under RCW 62A.3-515.
SECTION 2. Ordinance 8238, Section 1, as amended, and K.C.C. 4.92.010 are each hereby amended to read as follows:
((The purpose of this chapter is to authorize a))Agencies of King County ((to)) are authorized to assess a ((charge)) handling fee of (($25.00)) thirty-five dollars per check dishonored by nonacceptance or nonpayment, ((pursuant to)) as authorized under RCW 62A.3-515.
Any King County department or agency ((which)) that receives payment by check
may establish a procedure for the collection of this fee.
SECTION 3. This ordinance takes effect January 1, 2010.
