Title
A MOTION authorizing the King County sheriff's office to accept the donation of funding for a vehicle to be used by the detective assigned to the Pacific Northwest Fugitive Apprehension Taskforce (PNWFAT).
Body
WHEREAS, the King County sheriff's office (KCSO) criminal warrants unit has a detective assigned to the U.S. Marshals Pacific Northwest Fugitive Apprehension Taskforce (PNWFAT) in King County, and
WHEREAS, for the last several years, this detective has been assigned a contract rental car of undercover use, and
WHEREAS, the PNWFAT takes on the highest priority cases including murder, robbery, rape and serious crimes against persons, and
WHEREAS, the PNWFAT also covers overtime, travel expenses and training costs for the KCSO detective assigned to that taskforce, and
WHEREAS, the U.S. Marshals now have seizure funds available and wish to fund the purchase of vehicles for six hundred taskforce members nationwide, including the KCSO detective, and
WHEREAS, the attached memorandum of understanding outlines the details, and
WHEREAS, the funding includes $25,000 for initial vehicle purchase, $5,000 for equipment setup costs, including emergency lights, radios, prisoner cage, and siren, and $6,000 for fiscal year 2010 fuel use beginning October 1, 2009, and
WHEREAS, the purchase of this vehicle by U.S. Marshals funds will save the KCSO approximately $8,000per year over the next five years, which is the expected life of the vehicle, and
WHEREAS, the KCSO would like to accept the donation of funds for a vehicle from the PNWFAT;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:
The King County King County Sheriff's Office is authorized to accept the
donation of funds for a vehicle from the U.S. Marshals Pacific Northwest Fugitive Apprehension Taskforce.
