Title
A MOTION adopting the 2009 work program for the law, justice, health and human services committee.
Body
      WHEREAS, the law, justice, health and human services committee is charged with considering and making recommendations on policies relating to: law, safety, criminal justice and emergency management programs including those related to:  public safety; adult detention; juvenile justice and youth services; superior and district courts; judicial administration; prosecuting attorney; public defense; emergency medical services; and emergency management, including disaster response, emergency preparedness and emergency planning; and
      WHEREAS, the law, justice, health and human services committee is charged with considering and making recommendations on policies relating to public health programs, including those related to the protection, promotion and provision functions of the department of public health, including the structure of the public health centers; and
      WHEREAS, the law, justice, health and human services committee is charged with considering and making recommendations on policies relating to:  human services programs, including review of the veterans and human services levy programs and options for levy renewal; therapeutic and low-income housing; and civil rights and social justice; and
      WHEREAS, the law, justice, health and human services committee is charged with tracking state and federal legislative action in the areas within the committee's purview, the committee shall develop recommendations on policy direction for 2010 annual budget, and
      WHEREAS, the purpose of the law, justice, health and human services committee work program is to guide committee work, providing the public and members of the committee with a schedule for anticipated legislation and briefings and tentative dates for their consideration, and
      WHEREAS, the law, justice, health and human services committee work program is intended to assist the committee's primary and secondary chairs in developing agendas and assigning work to staff;
      NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:
 
      The law, justice, health and human services 2009 work program, Attachment A to this motion, is hereby adopted.
