AN ORDINANCE authorizing the county executive to enter into a contract between King County and the Washington state Department of Corrections for prisoner transport.

STATEMENT OF FACTS:
1.  The Washington state Department of Corrections ("DOC") wishes to enter into a contract for the King County sheriff's office to transport female prisoners under DOC supervision beginning July 1, 2007.
2.  The county has the ability to provide those transport services through its existing transportation routes, utilizing existing equipment and staff.
3.  Participation in this agreement is to the benefit of the citizens of King County.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KING COUNTY:
      SECTION 1.  The county executive is authorized to execute an agreement,
 
substantially in the form attached to this ordinance, with the Washington state Department of Corrections to provide prisoner transport.
