AN ORDINANCE renaming the Maple Valley Trailhead facility in honor of Fred V. Habenicht, to recognize his twenty years of dedication to the Maple Valley community and his instrumental role marshaling clean up and maintenance efforts at that facility.

STATEMENT OF FACTS:
1.  Fred V. Habenicht served the Maple Valley community for many years, thereby earning the respect and admiration of residents and county government officials.
2.  Fred V. Habenicht, as a member of the Rotary Club of Maple Valley, was influential more than twenty years ago in beginning efforts, which continue to this day, by the community and the Rotary Club of Maple Valley to clean up and maintain the Maple Valley Trailhead.
3.  Fred V. Habenicht was instrumental in working with the parks department to acquiring one hundred twenty thousand dollars in funding for improvements and maintenance, thus providing a safe area for families of the Maple Valley community to have access to the Cedar river.
4.  Fred V. Habenicht was admired for his commitment to the needs of his community and that sense of commitment has been institutionalized through the efforts of the Rotary Club of Maple Valley to ensure that his vision for safe and clean access to the Cedar river continue.
6.  Fred V. Habenicht passed away on June 19, 2006.
      BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KING COUNTY:
 
      SECTION 1.  We do hereby honor and memorialize Fred V. Habenicht by renaming the Maple Valley Trailhead as Fred V. Habenicht Rotary Park.
