Title
A MOTION extending the interim appointment of Pam Jones, juvenile division director, for a sixty-day period.
Body
WHEREAS, K.C.C. 2.16.110.E states the executive is authorized to appoint a person to serve in an acting capacity to fill a position requiring council confirmation for a period of no greater than one hundred fifty days. The executive shall notify the council within ninety days concerning the status of his or her search for a qualified candidate. On May 3, 2005, Pam Jones was appointed as the interim director of the juvenile division of the department of adult and juvenile detention pursuant to K.C.C. 2.16.110.A. Since the search was not completed, Ms. Jones was reappointed to this position effective October 1, 2005, and
WHEREAS, within ninety days of October 1, 2005, the executive and the department of adult and juvenile detention are notifying the council of the status of its search process, which includes participation by the superior court judges, an open recruitment that closed November 4, 2005, applicant rating that occurred the week of November 16, 2005, and an interview for final candidates that has been set for December 19, 2005, and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the county and its citizens and is critical to the effective running of the juvenile detention facility that Ms. Jones continue serving in the interim while the search for qualified candidates for the position has been concluded, and
WHEREAS, in accordance with K.C.C. 2.16.110.E, when the executive has provided notification of the search process within ninety days and does certify that the executive is actively searching for qualified candidates, the council shall grant at least one successive sixty-day extension of the interim appointment;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:
Pam Jones shall continue to serve as the interim juvenile division director for an
