A MOTION appointing the director of the office of law enforcement oversight.

Body

                     WHEREAS, Section 265 of the King County Charter states that the director of the office of law enforcement oversight ("OLEO") shall serve a four-year term and until a successor is appointed, and

                     WHEREAS, K.C.C. 2.75.030 states that the director of OLEO shall be selected by the council through a nationwide search using a merit-based selection process, and

                     WHEREAS, the council retained Ralph Andersen & Associates to conduct a nationwide search for candidates to serve as the director of the OLEO, and

                     WHEREAS, the nationwide search provided the council with two final candidates to serve as the director of OLEO, and

                     WHEREAS, the council hosted two public meetings on July 13, 2021, and July 14, 2021, allowing members of the public to hear from and ask questions of the final candidates to serve as the director of OLEO, and

                     WHEREAS, after careful consideration of the candidates' qualifications and feedback from the public, the council wishes to appoint Tamer Abouzeid to serve as director of OLEO for a four-year term;

                     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:

                     The appointment of Tamer Abouzeid to serve as the director of the office of law enforcement oversight is confirmed, effective September 20, 2021.
