Title

AN ORDINANCE relating to public transportation; approving a transit service funding agreement with Pierce Transit and the city of Auburn for the continued operations of Route 497.

Body

STATEMENT OF FACTS:

1.  As authorized by Ordinance 16041, in November 2008 King County, the Pierce County Public Transportation Benefit Area Corporation ("Pierce Transit") and the city of Auburn (referred to collectively as the "service partners") signed a direct financial service partnership agreement to provide commute alternatives to Pierce County residents who work in King County.

2.  In 2009, consistent with the service partnership agreement, Pierce Transit initiated transit service operations on Route 497.

3.  Since 2008, the service partners signed five amendments to the service partnership agreement to maintain service on Route 497, and to extend the terms of the agreement.  The agreement is set to expire in September of 2020.

4.  Route 497 has seen consistent ridership growth over the past ten years.

5.  The service partners have identified funding within their organizations to each fund a share of Pierce Transit's cost of operating Route 497 and wish to continue the funding partnership.

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KING COUNTY:

SECTON 1.  The Transit Service Funding Agreement between King County, Pierce Transit and the city of Auburn, in substantially the form as set forth in Attachment A to this ordinance, is hereby approved.
