Title

A MOTION calling on the county executive to authorize the opportunity under K.C.C. 3.12.222.B. to provide for relief to the Bahamas in response to Hurricane Dorian and examine ways for the county to aid in hurricane relief efforts.

Body

                     WHEREAS Hurricane Dorian, a Category 5 hurricane, decimated the Bahamas when it struck Grand Bahama, Abaco Islands and other islands in early September 2019, and

                     WHEREAS, the King County Code allows for county employees to donate their accrued vacation leave into cash for donation to support victims of natural disaster, and

                     WHEREAS, King County employees have shown themselves to be very generous in previous efforts to support victims of natural disaster, and

                     WHEREAS, King County also has extensive technical expertise and experience in dealing with natural disasters including problems associated with flooding;

                     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:

                     A.  The executive is requested to authorize the opportunity under K.C.C. 3.12.222.B. to allow for the conversion of accrued vacation into disaster relief funds.

                     B.  The executive is requested to examine ways the county may provide needed personnel or technical expertise to the Bahamas as it begins recovery from this disaster.

                     C.  The executive is requested to examine county inventory for any excess medical or other supplies that could be safely diverted to the hurricane relief efforts.
