Title

A MOTION authorizing King County Medic One emergency medical services to establish and administer the King County Medic One/EMS Citizen Hero Recognition Program.

Body

                     WHEREAS, King County Medic One is a public, service-oriented organization operated by the King County emergency medical services division of the department of health, and

                     WHEREAS, King County Medic One emergency medical services provides a critical link in the region's world-class emergency medical services system, and

                     WHEREAS, the Medic One system integrates citizen participation, basic life support and advanced life support services, and

                     WHEREAS, the Medic One system encourages, develops and practices leadership skills at all levels, motivating others to achieve common goals, and

                     WHEREAS, citizen participation is an integral part of the Medic One system, and

                     WHEREAS, King County citizens have made the choice to be active participants in the lives of people around them by helping their neighbor or loved one in a time of need;

                     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:

                     A.  King County Medic One emergency medical services is authorized to establish and administer a program to publicly recognize and honor citizens for heroic and courageous efforts, extraordinary community accomplishments or remarkable acts of public service.

                     B.  The program should be known as the King County Medic One/EMS Citizen Hero Recognition Program.

                     C.  King County Medic One emergency medical services, within sixty days of the effective date of this motion, shall file a report in the form of a paper original and an electronic copy with the clerk of the council, who shall retain the original and provide an electronic copy to all councilmembers.  The report shall include at a minimum the following information:

                       1.  Program name, if other than that stated in subsection B. of this motion;

                       2.  Program guidelines and procedures, including;

                         a.  process for identifying and selecting the individuals authorized to evaluate nominations and select program recipients;

                         b.  process for submitting nominations;

                         c.  criteria for evaluating and selecting individuals for program recognition;

                         d.  plan for recognition of selected recipient.

                     D.  Upon program recipient selection, King County Medic One emergency medical services shall notify the councilmember in which the selected recipient resides,

as well as provide details regarding the date, time and manner of program recognition as this information becomes available.
