Title

AN ORDINANCE relating to emergency jail housing; authorizing an emergency jail housing agreement between King County and Snohomish county.

Body

                     BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KING COUNTY:

                     SECTION 1.  Findings:

                     A.  The King County department of adult and juvenile detention has a need for options to house inmates elsewhere in an emergency situation.

                     B.  A similar ordinance, Ordinance 17977, enacted February 2015, authorized an agreement between King County and Pierce county.

                     C.  The King County department of adult and juvenile detention is working to secure similar agreements across the state in order to have a variety of options to house inmates elsewhere in an emergency situation.

                     D.  The attached agreement, Attachment A to this ordinance, allows the department of adult and juvenile detention and Snohomish county to request that the other party provide housing and other related services during an emergency.  The agreement includes cost reimbursement for emergency housing.

                     SECTION 2.  The King County executive is hereby authorized to execute the

emergency jail housing agreement and subsequent extensions, in substantially the form of Attachment A to this ordinance, between King County and Snohomish county.
