Title
A MOTION providing for the honorary designation as Jane Hague Way for the portion of the Eastside Rail Corridor from approximately mileposts 13.5 through 14.65 in honor of Jane Hague, to recognize her leadership, effectiveness and dedicated service as a member of the King County council.
Body
WHEREAS, Jane Hague has served as a member of the King County Council since 1994, and
WHEREAS, Jane Hague has represented council district six, which includes Beaux Arts, Bellevue, Clyde Hill, Hunts Point, Kirkland, Medina, Mercer Island, Redmond, Woodinville and Yarrow Point, and
WHEREAS, Jane Hague has been a leader on the issues of government accountability, growth management, the arts and parks and trails, and
WHEREAS, as the chair of the committee of the whole in 2012, Jane Hague led the process by which King County acquired ownership interests in portions of the Eastside Rail Corridor, a former rail line that extends forty-two miles from Renton to Woodinville, through Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond and portions of unincorporated King County, and
WHEREAS, following King County's acquisition of ownership interests in portions of the Eastside Rail Corridor, Jane Hague recognized the importance of a multiuse vision for the corridor to encompass mobility, recreation and utility infrastructure, and convened a regional advisory council with the other owners of the rail-banked portion of the Eastside Rail Corridor, including the cities of Redmond and Kirkland, Sound Transit and Puget Sound Energy, and
WHEREAS, Jane Hague has served as cochair of the Eastside Rail Corridor regional advisory council and led work on the group's 2013 report, Creating Connections, which outlined a multiuse vision for the corridor and a planning framework by which the owners could work together to realize the vision, and
WHEREAS, Jane Hague has worked closely with federal, state and local elected officials, as well as with private sector partners and stakeholders to advance the multiuse vision for the Eastside Rail Corridor and to identify potential funding sources for its development, and
WHEREAS, Jane Hague has been one of the region's leaders in ensuring that the Eastside Rail Corridor will become a corridor for the ages, potentially stretching from Vancouver to Vancouver, and beyond, and
WHEREAS, Our community owes Jane Hague a debt of gratitude for her decades of leadership and service and in particular for her leadership on the Eastside Rail Corridor and as an advocate for parks and trails to improve the quality of life in our region, and
WHEREAS, the honorary designation as Jane Hague Way of a portion of the Eastside Rail Corridor on which King County owns property interests and which is located in her former council district would be a fitting honor for Jane Hague's legacy of service and leadership;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:
A. The portion of the Eastside Rail Corridor from approximately mileposts 13.5 through 14.65 is given the honorary designation as Jane Hague Way in honor of Jane Hague, to recognize her leadership, effectiveness and dedicated service as a member of the King County council.
B. The executive is requested to erect at least one sign within the portion of the
Eastside Rail Corridor from approximately mileposts 13.5 through 14.65 noting the honorary designation as Jane Hague Way.
