A MOTION to name a stream located southwest of Woodinville Susan Woodin Creek.

      WHEREAS, the unnamed stream located southwest of Woodinville is a tributary of the Sammamish River; and
      WHEREAS, a proposal to name the creek Woodin Creek was submitted to the Washington State Board on Geographic Names on behalf of the City of Woodinville, Director of Parks and Recreation; and
      WHEREAS, the Woodinville Historical Society disagreed with the proposal and has requested that the creek, instead, be named Susan Woodin Creek, and
      WHEREAS, Susan Woodin operated the first community school, post office, and store out of her home, in Woodinville; and
      WHEREAS, according to the Origin of Washington Geographic Names, Woodinville was named in 1868 in honor of Ira Woodin, the first postmaster of Woodinville;
 
      NOW, THEREFORE BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:
      In recognition of an early pioneer of the Sammamish Valley, the naming of an unnamed stream located southwest of Woodinville Susan Woodin Creek is hereby authorized.
