A RESOLUTION commending Executive Constantine, Leadership Circle Cochairs and members, Public Health - Seattle & King County and the broad network of community and governmental partners for their efforts to enroll uninsured residents.
Body
WHEREAS, the Affordable Care Act provides a historic opportunity to enroll uninsured King County residents in free or low-cost health insurance, and
WHEREAS, before health reform, one in six adults in King County ages eighteen through sixty-four were uninsured, and
WHEREAS, wide coverage disparities exist in King County related to place, race/ethnicity, education and income. While King County's lack of health insurance is the lowest among the fifteen largest United States metropolitan counties, its income disparity among those who have and do not have health insurance is the highest.
WHEREAS, Executive Constantine and the Leadership Circle championed health insurance coverage by engaging their respective constituencies. The Leadership Circle consists of three cochairs and prominent community leaders from local business, health and community-based organizations, education, cities, media and other sectors, and
WHEREAS, Public Health - Seattle & King County and community partners developed innovative outreach and communication strategies to reach uninsured populations where they reside, and
WHEREAS, government departments and divisions leveraged existing communication channels with the public to reach uninsured residents, and
WHEREAS, more than one hundred fifty thousand King County residents enrolled in health insurance during the first six-month open enrollment period;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF HEALTH OF KING COUNTY:
