Title
A MOTION related to the transfer of retired vanpool vans to non-profit organizations and local governments to meet the needs of low-income, elderly, disabled and young county citizens.
Body
WHEREAS, King County provides transit services to its citizens to increase mobility options, reduce traffic congestion and related environmental degradation, and
WHEREAS, the provision of passenger vans to groups serving individuals with limited resources and mobility options will support those goals and provide significant public benefits, and
WHEREAS, high-quality passenger vans retaining substantial value and utility are periodically retired from the county's vanpool program, and
WHEREAS, the metropolitan King County council has previously transferred retired vans to agencies serving low-income, elderly, disabled and young people, and
WHEREAS, the council provided for the transfer of twenty-six additional vans in the 2002 Metro transit division budget, and
WHEREAS, a recent shift in the retirement policy for vanpool fleet vehicles from five years to six years combined with no van purchase in 1996 has resulted in the availability of only thirteen vans for distribution by the council this year;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:
The donation of a retired vanpool passenger van to each of the following agencies is hereby approved:
ARC of King County;
Black Diamond Community Center;
Burien Highline Senior Center;
CYE Learning Center;
Federal Way Boys and Girls Club;
Friendship House;
Fremont Public Association;
Hale Halawai O Hawai'i;
Highline YMCA;
North Seattle Boys and Girls Club;
Rainier Vista Boys and Girls Club;
Stroum Jewish Community Center; and
Young Educated Athletes.
