STATEMENT OF FACTS:
1. The code governing the department of information technology is revised to more clearly reflect its updated essential functions and responsibilities, reinforcing its role within county operations, and enhancing overall efficiency.
2. The department's divisional structure was last updated in 2016 via Ordinance 18432. Since that time, King County's technology needs and uses have significantly expanded, along with the rapidly evolving modern technology environment.
3. Under K.C.C. 2.16.035, the department of executive services oversees all franchising activities except for cable telecommunications, which is currently managed by the department of information technology. Under the proposed amendments, responsibility for cable telecommunications franchising will transfer to the department of executive services, aligning it with the county's other franchising functions.
