Title

AN ORDINANCE authorizing the county executive to execute an amendment to the agency agreement between King County and the Central Puget Sound Regional Transit Authority for full-time transit police services, Ordinance 18868, extending the term through December 31, 2027.

body

STATEMENT OF FACTS:

1.  The Central Puget Sound Regional Transit Authority, also known as Sound Transit, and the county are parties to an ILA for full-time transit police services, which the county executive executed under the authority of Ordinance 18868.

2.  The agency agreement expires December 31, 2026, and provides two options to extend the term for additional seven-year periods and requires council authorization before the executive exercises an option.

3.  Sound Transit seeks ongoing police services, and the King County Sheriff's Office is prepared to continue police services, but the county and Sount Transit require additional time to negotiate the terms of the seven-year option period.

4.  Sound Transit and the county have negotiated an amendment that provides time to negotiate revisions to the agency agreement, and which extends the term of the agency agreement through December 31, 2027.  All other terms of the agency agreement remain in effect during the extension.

5.  Continuation of transit police services benefits residents of and visitors to King County.

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KING COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The county executive is authorized to execute the amendment to

the agreement with Sound Transit for full-time transit police services, substantially in the form of Attachment A to this ordinance.
