Title

A MOTION appointing a candidate to fill the vacant position of County councilmember representing council district five, in accordance with Section 680.10 of the King County Charter and RCW 36.16.110(3).

Body

                     WHEREAS, on January 15, 2025, councilmember Dave Upthegrove resigned as the King County councilmember representing council district five to take office as Public Lands Commissioner, and

                     WHEREAS, in accordance with Section 680.10 of the King County Charter and RCW 36.16.110(3), the council is authorized to fill the vacancy by appointing a new councilmember to represent council district five until a successor is elected and qualified at the next general election, which will be held on November 4, 2025, and

                     WHEREAS, pursuant to RCW 36.16.110(3) the executive has nominated three candidates to the council for its consideration, and

                     WHEREAS, the council is required by RCW 36.16.110(3) to fill the vacancy from among the candidates nominated by the executive, and

                     WHEREAS, the council has carefully considered the candidates nominated by the executive and has decided upon the candidate who will best serve council district five until the next general election;

                     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:

                     The metropolitan King County council hereby appoints De'Sean Quinn to serve as the King County councilmember representing council district five until the successor to the office has been elected and qualified at the general election on November 4, 2025.
