A MOTION authorizing the executive to accept a donation of one thousand dollars from Margaret Hansen to the King County sheriff's office in support of the school resource officer program.

      WHEREAS, the King County sheriff's office operates a school resource officer program to provide education, mentoring, security and other activities to create a safe and secure school environment, and
      WHEREAS, Margaret Hansen, a private citizen with no contractual relationship with the county, is thoroughly impressed with the services provided by the sheriff's office school resource officer program and wishes to support their efforts in this time of tight budgetary concerns, and
      WHEREAS, Margaret Hansen voluntarily, without coercion or inducement, wishes to donate one thousand dollars to the school resource officer program for the Lindbergh high school resource officer to attend a national conference scheduled during July 2002, and
      WHEREAS, this donation will legitimately enhance the county's ability to serve in the public's interest and the knowledge gained at the conference will benefit all sheriff's office school resource officers, and
      WHEREAS, this donation is intended neither to influence a particular county action, nor to affect the performance of official duties and responsibilities by King County sheriff's deputies, and
      WHEREAS, King County government is a charitable organization as defined by the federal Internal Revenue Service and King County as an entity can accept gifts;
      NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:
 
      The King County sheriff's office is authorized to accept a donation of one thousand dollars from Margaret Hansen to benefit the school resource officer program.
