Title

A MOTION appointing a qualified person to serve as hearing examiner pro tempore.

Body

                     WHEREAS, Section 896 of the King County Charter requires that the council shall provide an opportunity for an administrative appeal to a hearing examiner or other body for appeals from the granting or rejecting of an application for zoning variance or conditional use permit, and

                     WHEREAS, the positions of hearing examiner and deputy hearing examiner are currently vacant, and additional hearing examiners pro tempore are urgently needed to process the current and expected hearings, and

                     WHEREAS, on July 1, 2025, the council adopted Ordinance 19952 to temporarily empower the council to appoint by motion qualified persons to serve as hearing examiners pro tempore if the positions of hearing examiner and deputy hearing examiner are both vacant, and

                     WHEREAS, K.C.C. 20.22.020.C. permits the council to authorize by motion persons who hold another elective or appointed public office or position in King County government to serve as hearing examiners pro tempore, and

                     WHEREAS, the council seeks to appoint senior principal auditor Peter Heineccius, a current county employee, to serve as hearing examiner pro tempore with the powers and duties authorized by K.C.C. 20.22.020.E. for assigned cases;

                     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:

                     The King County council hereby appoints Peter Heineccius to serve as hearing examiner pro tempore with the powers and duties found in K.C.C. 20.22.020.E. for assigned cases.
