Title
AN ORDINANCE relating to extending the expiration date for the ordinance designating stay-out-of-drug-area emphasis areas; and amending Ordinance 15057, Section 4.

STATEMENT OF FACTS:
1. The county council adopted Ordinance 15057 in 2004 to establish stay-out-of-drug-area emphasis areas to discourage illegal drug sales and use in identified neighborhoods in unincorporated King County.
2. The establishment of Ordinance 15057 and the designation of these areas provided law enforcement with a useful tool to effectively improve the quality of life in these designated areas.
3. In the process of adopting Ordinance 15057, the council heard extensive testimony from neighborhood representatives, law enforcement officers, business leaders, school officials, community activists, representatives of minority communities and the unincorporated area council about the need for this legislation.
4. The county council, in designated the stay-out-of-drug-area emphasis areas established an expiration date that allowed for a review of the effectiveness of the policy.
5. Ordinance 15057 has been in place since 2004 and has had a significant positive effect upon the community.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KING COUNTY:
SECTION 1. Ordinance 15057, Section 4, is hereby amended to read as follows:
This ordinance expires December 31, ((2006)) 2010.
