AN ORDINANCE authorizing the Metro transit department to file applications with the Federal Transit Administration, an operating administration of the United States Department of Transportation, for federal transportation assistance authorized by 49 U.S.C. chapter 53, Title 23 U.S.C., and other federal statutes administered by the Federal Transit Administration; and adding a new chapter to K.C.C. Title 28.

STATEMENT OF FACTS:
1. The Federal Transportation Administrator has been delegated authority to award federal financial assistance for transportation projects.
2. The Federal Transportation Administrator requires legislation expressly authorizing the Metro transit department of King County to apply for federal assistance and legally committing King County to comply with the terms of an award as the recipient or applicant of a grant or cooperative agreement.
3. The grant or cooperative agreements for federal financial assistance will impose certain obligations upon King County, and may require King County to provide the local share of project costs.
4. The Metro transit department has or will provide all annual certifications and assurances to the Federal Transit Administration required for Federal Transit Administration-funded projects.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KING COUNTY:
SECTION 1. Section 2 of this ordinance should constitute a new chapter in K.C.C. Title 28.

The general manager of the Metro transit department is authorized to execute and file applications for federal assistance on behalf of King County with the Federal Transit Administration for federal assistance authorized by 49 U.S.C. chapter 53, Title 23 U.S.C., or other federal statutes authorizing a project administered by the Federal Transit Administration.
