A MOTION approving King County department of adult and juvenile detention, juvenile division, 2009 budget proviso response.

WHEREAS, the King County council in adopting the 2009 Budget Ordinance, Ordinance 16312, Section 47, Proviso P1, directed the department of adult and juvenile detention to prepare a report describing the span of control and supervision within the department of adult and juvenile detention's juvenile division, and
WHEREAS, the department of adult and juvenile detention has prepared such report, and
WHEREAS, the department of adult and juvenile detention is committed to providing high quality detention programs and services to youth involved in the criminal justice system with the long-term, overall goal that addressing change in youth behaviors today will prevent the youth from entering the adult criminal justice system, and
WHEREAS, the department of adult and juvenile detention continues to implement this commitment through review of policies and practices to find most efficient staffing models and through collaborative work with criminal justice partners to reduce the secure detention population, thereby providing opportunities for impact to staffing and supervision;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:
The department of adult and juvenile detention, juvenile division, 2009 budget proviso response, Attachment A to this motion, is hereby approved.
