AN ORDINANCE relating to the South County Area Transportation Board authorizing the county executive to enter into an agreement for its continuation and committing to King County staff support through 2012.

STATEMENT OF FACTS:
1. King County and the cities in King County have a long history of multijurisdictional transportation planning and have found that benefits can be achieved by multijurisdictional coordination, including a cooperative approach to planning, financing and construction of needed transportation improvements.
2. The King County Public Transportation Long Range Policy Framework, adopted in 1993, divided Metro transit service into three geographic subareas for the purpose of allocating new transit service subsidy. In addition, the Six-Year Transit Development Plan, adopted in 2002, calls for the three subarea transportation boards, the Eastside Transportation Partnership, the South County Area Transportation Board and the SeaShore Transportation Forum, to review, to refine and to recommend service priorities to the King County executive.
The South County Area Transportation Board has functioned as a board since 1990, providing input on various transportation projects and policies.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KING COUNTY:
SECTION 1. King County approves the agreement in substantially the form attached, for the South County Area Transportation Board. The agreement:
A. Commits to continued staff support for its continuation through 2012;
B. Confirms its responsibilities for King County, including providing policy direction for the subarea on the following issues:
1. Development of the Six-Year Transit Development Plan;
2. Implementation of transit service priorities; and
3. Additional transportation recommendations called for by the board;
