AN ORDINANCE providing for expanded representation to the King County emergency management advisory committee, including the Health Care Coalition; and amending Ordinance 13623, Section 1, as amended, and K.C.C. 2.36.055.

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KING COUNTY:
SECTION 1. Findings:
A. The King County Healthcare Coalition was formed November 2005, and is a network of healthcare organizations and providers that are committed to strengthening the healthcare system for emergencies. The purpose of the coalition is to develop a coordinated and effective medical and public health system response to all hazards through: effective communications systems and protocols; strategic acquisition and management of resources; and collaborative response planning.
B. The King County Healthcare Coalition plays a significant role in regional preparedness and response planning initiatives. Preparedness roles include providing a regional structure and process for members and partners to improve emergency preparedness through joint-planning and problem-solving. In addition, the coalition co-sponsors a Regional Medical Resource Center to coordinate medical assets and communications for the county's healthcare system. The coalition's response role includes providing a structure for the health care system to address priorities that arise during an emergency response.
SECTION 2. Ordinance 13623, Section 1, as amended, and K.C.C. 2.36.055 are each hereby amended as follows:
A. The King County emergency management advisory committee is hereby established. The committee shall act in an advisory capacity to the county executive, council and office of emergency management on emergency management matters and facilitate the coordination of regional emergency planning in King County.
