AN ORDINANCE making an honorary road name designation in memory and recognition of First Lieutenant Michael R. Adams.

STATEMENT OF FACTS:
1. The council, by motion, may propose an honorary road name designation, consistent with K.C.C. 16.08.060.
2. On May 21, 2018, the council passed Motion 15155, which proposed an honorary road name designation in memory and recognition of First Lieutenant Michael R. Adams.
3. On March 16, 2004, First Lieutenant Michael R. Adams was killed in an accident in Asad, Iraq, just west of Baghdad while riding in a convoy to Kuwait.
4. First Lieutenant Adams lived with his family in the unincorporated community of Fairwood from the time he was in third grade until his graduation from Kentridge High School in 1998.
5. As an Eagle Scout, Commander of the Kentridge High School Junior ROTC Unit and an impeccable student, First Lieutenant Adams was nominated by former U.S. Congresswoman Jennifer Dunn to the United States Naval Academy.
6. First Lieutenant Adams was nominated by U.S. Senator Patty Murray to the United States Military Academy at West Point.
7. First Lieutenant Adams graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 2002, and trained to be an Armor Officer at Fort Knox, Kentucky, before being assigned to be a tank platoon leader with the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Fort Carson, Colorado.
8. In 2003, First Lieutenant Adams was deployed to Iraq.
9. First Lieutenant Adams was killed in an accident on March 16, 2004.
10. First Lieutenant Adams is buried in the United States Military Academy Post Cemetery in West Point, Orange County, New York, U.S.A.
11. To honor First Lieutenant Adams's life, dedication and service to his country, the council of King County is making an honorary street designation of "1LT Michael Adams Place" for Southeast 185th Place, the road where First Lieutenant Adams's childhood home was located.
12. All requirements set forth in K.C.C. 16.08.060 regarding honorary road name designations have been met.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KING COUNTY:
SECTION 1. The section of Southeast 185th Place between 132nd Place Southeast and 134th Avenue Southeast is given the honorary road name designation "1LT Michael Adams Place," to honor First Lieutenant Adams's life, dedication and service to his country.
SECTION 2. The department of transportation, roads services division, shall design, erect and maintain a properly engineered honorary road name sign reading as described in this ordinance at the section of Southeast 185th Place between 132nd Place Southeast and 134th Avenue Southeast.
