Title

A MOTION acknowledging receipt of a report on garbage collection in unincorporated areas by the solid waste division of the department of natural resources and parks, as required by the 2017-2018 Biennial Budget Ordinance, Ordinance 18409, Section 107, as amended by Ordinance 18544, Section 68, Proviso P5.

Body

                     WHEREAS, the 2017-2018 Biennial Budget Ordinance, Ordinance 18409, as amended by Ordinance 18544, Section 68, Proviso P5, included a requirement that the executive transmit a report that evaluates a proposed garbage service change, whereby the frequency of garbage collection in unincorporated areas of the county would be reduced from every week to every other week, and

                     WHEREAS, the proviso outlined a public outreach process that the executive must follow to obtain community input if the executive determined it would be beneficial to reduce the frequency of garbage collection in unincorporated areas, and

                     WHEREAS, in response to the proviso requirement, the executive transmitted a letter on November 15, 2017, which states that reduced garbage collection will not be pursued, from every week to every other week, in unincorporated areas of the county from this date through the end of 2018, and

                     WHEREAS, this letter satisfies the requirement in the proviso that states that if the executive decides not to pursue the proposed garbage service change described in this proviso, the report shall state this and no further reporting is required;

                     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:

                     The council acknowledges receipt of the report on garbage collection in unincorporated areas of King County, submitted as Attachment A to this motion, which

states that the executive does not intend to pursue reduced garbage collection from every week to every other week.
